The sky-high heels. The weird head garments. The quirky ensembles. For years, models on the runway and stars on the red carpet have found ways to display the oddest of fashion creations, from the crazy to the horrifying to the outright hideous. Because these models are indeed on the runway, and these stars are on the red carpet in Hollywood, the limits for what is “absurd” tend to be much looser than what one would consider for everyday, citizen attire. Still, there is a point when fashion designers for the runway or the red carpet simply go too far, overstepping the boundaries of Hollywood normalcy.
Case in point: Lady Gaga. Real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Lady Gaga was born in Yonkers, New York on March 28th, 1986. Learning piano at age four, and being accepted to to Julliard at the age of eleven (but rejecting the offer to instead attend a Catholic school), (Biography.com) Lady Gaga appeared to be a child correctly using her creativity. Success seemed to be destiny for her. And eventually, it came. According to Biography.com,
“Lady Gaga’s debut single, “Just Dance,” was released to radio in early 2008, and received both popular and commercial acclaim. The song was then nominated for a Grammy Award (for best dance recording) in 2008. “
Lady Gaga has since become an international superstar, working with established artists and labels such as Beyonce and Interscope Records. She’s done many tours around the world, singing her hit songs to millions of screaming “monsters” (her name for her fans).
Despite all the success, Lady Gaga dresses in a manner that oversteps the boundaries of Hollywood normalcy. Take for example her infamous meat dress, which she wore to the 2010 Video Music Awards.
It’s a fairly accurate assumption to assume that even in the world of Hollywood, most dresses aren’t made out of animal meat. Lady Gaga’s meat dress caused a huge wave of unfavorable reactions from not only PETA but also scores of online commenters (just look at the comments on this Huffington Post article. The dress was slammed for its offensiveness, it’s craziness, it’s wackiness, it’s symbolicness of animal cruelty, and it’s ‘neediness’ (in other words, many Americans felt the dress was a desperate cry for attention). Lady Gaga, you know you’ve gone too far when your outrageous, un-fancy choices of clothing cause such horrendous reaction. Unfortunately, Lady Gaga, to the present, has continued her absurd fashion charades. This is the latest eye-popping outfit she’s worn (specifically, it was part of her most recent tour):
This meat dress is neither attractive nor acceptable. So, readers, next time you are going to a dinner party, don’t think that wearing a prime rib as a blazer will be a good idea. You will be socked in the face.
